Skillweb History

Skillweb was founded on the principle that real time operational systems can improve accuracy, safety and reduce costs, enabling enhanced levels of customer service in a challenging environment. Companies using Skillweb systems are all leaders in their field of operations.

Originally our focus and core expertise was in developing technology solutions to improve processes for managing consignments for logistics organisations. At this time, mobile technologies and wireless data networks were reaching a stage of maturity to enable a viable system to be designed and deployed to operate in real time, pretty much anywhere in the UK.

Skillweb The Early Years

This design ethos was incorporated into our management and reporting solutions from mobile-derived operational data as well as perfecting in-field systems, providing a complete end to end capability from day one.

As the organisation developed, we realised that this data was at the heart of every company’s success, and despite this knowledge we found that many of our competitors focus solely on the mobile elements and leave the job of managing that valuable data to the client – clearly an oversight!

In parallel with pioneering the development of cutting edge mobile track and trace systems for the mail and express delivery sector, Skillweb solutions were developed to support sortation, warehousing and cross docking operations – a logical extension for the team as the specialised supply chain industry expertise was consolidating.

The major breakthrough came for Skillweb in winning the contract to support BT supply chain operations under a multi year contract, a relationship that is still evolving over ten years later with various enhancements to the original system implemented along the way, delivering operational streamlining and rationalisation and savings.

Following a project with JerseyPost, DHL selected it’s platform to enable them to launch a completely new consumer-focused delivery business – DHL@Home now YODEL– which became a market leader as a result, by way of an impressive 1st day delivery record of 100% (well in excess of the industry average of 85%).

Since 2005 the Skillweb core platform and business systems have been enhanced and adapted to solve many other business critical issues  across a variety of enterprise sectors including retail, manufacturing and healthcare. This has led to the rationalisation of the developed solutions into defined product sets.

Houndit Enterprise Solution

In 2007 Skillweb chose to differentiate these products by launching the Houndit brand of solutions, promoting best of breed products for rapid and painless deployment, fully featured to suit a wide range of enterprises that require track and trace capabilities.

By 2009 we had gained approval under the Information Governance Statement of Compliance (IGSoC) programme for system security and data integrity, enabling us to handle NHS patient data. To date we are still the only mobile solutions company to offer and maintain this accreditation.

SmartTask Suite Launched

We celebrated our 10th anniversary by launching a new suite of solutions tailored to Community Health workers to reduce the amount of time spent of administration and allowing them the ability to see more patients: SmartTask for Health. Since then, the SmartTask suite of solutions has continued to grow, offering true, out of the box solutions for efficient and productive mobile workforces.

Now in our 13th year, we track everything from screwdrivers on a van in Cornwall to oxygen at a patient’s home in Caithness, a Security Guard checking a location in Antrim to an engineer repairing a faulty line on Anglesey. But we wont stop there…… Since then we are currently working on future products, including new extensions to our range of time and attendance systems and a sure fire way to manage peak delivery seasons. if you have a business case that needs solving, come and talk to us, we always complete the challenge!
